Crochet Mini Watermelon Slice – Free Pattern + Video Tutorial

Looking for a super quick and fun summer project? This crochet mini watermelon slice is just what you need! 🍉

It's small, colorful, beginner-friendly, and takes only about 15 minutes to make. Whether you're decorating a summer table, making a playful garland, or adding a cute charm to your keys or bag, this project is sure to bring some sunshine to your day.

In this free crochet pattern, I’ll walk you through every step of the process - from making a perfect flat circle to folding, edging, and adding little black seeds. And yes - there’s a free video tutorial at the end of this post if you prefer to follow along visually!

What You'll Need

  • Small amounts of Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8 in red, white, green, and black (or any other light weight yarn)
  • Crochet hook: 4 mm (US G-6)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Optional: keyring and chain if making a keychain

Abbreviations (US Terms)

mr – magic ring
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)

CROCHET PATTERN:

Start with red yarn

Round 1: Make a magic ring, work 6 single crochets into the ring. Pull tight and join with a slip stitch. [6 sts]

Round 2: ch1 (counts as sc), sc in the same st, next work 2 sc in each stitch around. [12 sts]

Round 3: ch1 (counts as sc), next inc in the next st, (sc, inc) * repeat 5 times. [18 sts]

Round 4: ch1 (counts as sc), next inc in the next st, sc, (sc, inc, sc) * repeat 5 times. Fasten off. [24 sts]

Join a white yarn

Round 5: (sc 3, inc) * repeat 6 times. Fasten off.  [30 sts]

You should now have a nice, smooth circle.

Add the Seeds

Use black yarn and a tapestry needle to embroider small straight stitches on the red part of the slice. These simple lines look just like little watermelon seeds. I added a few spaced evenly, but you can play around with placement - just keep it cute and minimal.

Now fold the circle in half, with the right side facing out. Grab your green yarn and continue working along the flat edge of the half-circle.

Final row: Work single crochets across the straight edge. In the very first stitch, work 2 sc. Continue working 1 sc in each stitch across. In the last stitch, work 2 sc again. This gives the slice a nice rounded look and helps define the shape.

Fasten off and weave in all ends inside the piece.

How to Turn It into a Keychain

If you'd like to turn your watermelon slice into a keychain, attach a small chain and a keyring to one of the top corners of the green edge using your tapestry needle or a jump ring. And just like that - you have the cutest little crochet watermelon keychain!
