CROCHET PATTERN:

This project is worked flat as a simple rectangle, making it an incredibly relaxing and meditative project.

The pattern begins with a foundation chain, where the length of your initial chain directly determines the final height of your pumpkin. For the main example shown in the video, I started with a foundation chain of 16 chains.

R1: sc into the second chain from your hook. Continue to sc in each stitch across the row. Chain 1 and turn.

R2: sc (BLO) in each stitch across the row. Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 3 and beyond: Repeat Row 2 until your ribbed fabric reaches your desired width (or until you hit your preferred row count). A helpful rule of thumb to calculate your rows is to double your starting chain count (minus one). For instance, with this size: (16 - 1) x 2 = 30 rows. This serves as a great baseline, but you can always add or subtract rows to customize the look. Fasten off, leaving a long tail of yarn for seaming and shaping.

The magic happens during the assembly. Once you finish your rows, you will use a tapestry needle to seam the sides together, instantly turning your flat crochet piece into a tube. From there, one end is cinched tight to form a solid base, the inside is filled with fluffy fiberfill stuffing, and the top is gathered closed.

To finish it off, a strand of yarn is pulled through the very center from top to bottom. This shaping technique flattens the ball, giving it that classic, rustic pumpkin look before you pop a wooden stem right into the top!

The row count and starting chains are highly adaptable, meaning you can use this exact method to build a whole pumpkin patch in various sizes - from tiny decorative accents to large table centerpieces.
