There's something so satisfying about a stitch that looks intricate but works up almost on autopilot. This scarf uses the classic Block Stitch - a simple two-row repeat that creates a beautiful lacy texture, perfect for those in-between seasons when you want something light but still cozy.

This is one of those projects that works for everyone. Whether you're just starting out or looking for a relaxing make, this scarf has you covered. It uses only basic stitches, works with pretty much any yarn, and looks so much more impressive than the effort it takes.
I used a cotton-silk print and honestly fell in love with the result - light, drapey, perfect for spring. But this pattern is so versatile! Go wider with bamboo yarn and you've got a gorgeous summer shawl. Switch to chunky and suddenly it's your coziest winter scarf. Same two rows, completely different vibes. ✨
What You'll Need
- around 200 m (220 yds) of Friends Cotton Silk Print yarn or other light (DK weight, light worsted yarn or 8-ply yarn)
- Crochet hook: 5 mm (US H-8)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – chain
- ch-sp – chain space
- sc - single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- rep – repeat
Gauge: Not critical for this project. Use the hook size that gives you a fabric you love.
Width: approx. 17 cm (7 in)
Length: adjust by working more or fewer rows
CROCHET PATTERN:
Foundation: Ch 34 (or any multiple of 5 + 4).
Row 1: Dc in the 5th ch from the hook, dc in next 3 ch, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next 4 ch; rep from * until 6 ch remain, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next 4 ch, dc in last ch. Сh 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in the first st, *ch 4, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * to end. Work last sc in the top of the turning ch-4. Ch 3, turn.

Row 3: 4 dc in first ch-4 sp, *ch 1, 4 dc in next ch-4 sp; rep from * to end. Work last dc in the sc of the previous row. Ch 1, turn.

Rep Rows 2–3 until your scarf reaches the desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends.

TIPS:
💡 Tension matters here. If your ch-4 arches feel too tight or too loose, try adjusting your tension or going up/down half a hook size.
💡 This stitch is very forgiving with yarn choice – works beautifully with cotton, cotton-silk blends, bamboo, or anything with a bit of drape.
💡 Experiment with colors! Try switching yarn every 2 rows to create a stripe effect – the open lacy structure makes color changes look especially beautiful. Variegated or print yarns like Friends Cotton Silk Print work like magic here too.
